  • School Vacation Week in Salem!

    • April 19 - 27, 2014
    • Wondering what to do with the kids while on School Vacation Week? Salem has a number of great places to visit with the family, and the many exhibits, activities, tours, and events can help in not only fill up your days, but educate and excite as well. The best place to start your visit in Salem is the Salem Maritime National Historic Site (http://www.nps.gov/sama). National Park Rangers and staff will be conducting tours of the Friendship and Customs House at 1pm and 2pm each day, offering their Junior Ranger Program, as well as the films shown daily in the visitor center. Tickets for tours of the Maritime Site are free, but require a reservation by calling 978-740-1650 or stopping by the Visitor Center on the same day of the tour. The House of the Seven Gables is open the entire week and will be hosting special programming for children for a special "Pay What You Wish" price. Regular admission price applies for guided tour of the historic home. The Peabody Essex Museum is open on Patriots Day, Monday, April 21st from 10am-5pm.

  • Salem Arts Festival

    • June 6 - 8, 2014
    • For three days each June, this free family-friendly festival transforms downtown Salem into an opportunity for the arts community to showcase their talents.  Now in its fifth year, the festival boasts attendance numbers in the thousands and celebrates all the arts: painting, photography, sculpture, dance, music, writing, film, new media, performance, theatre, poetry, culinary, and more!

  • Great Salem Fire Centenial Commemoration

    • March 20, 2014 - June 26, 2014
    • On June 25, 1914 a devastating fire ignited in the leather-manufacturing district of Salem and, over the course of two days, destroyed 1,376 buildings, leaving 18,000 people—almost half of Salem’s 1914 population--homeless and many without jobs.  Remembering the 100th anniversary of this tragic event, the Great Salem Fire Commemoration is hosting various events planned around Salem in 2014.

  • Salem Maritime Festival

    • August 2 - 2, 2014
    • The 26th annual Salem Maritime Festival offers an exciting array of free family fun, including live music, free harbor cruises, craft demonstrations, dance, story-telling, and much more! Kids will enjoy face painting, fish painting, seaside kite-flying, radio-controlled boats, a "Muck Walk" and touch tanks with their favorite marine critters.

  • Salem Jazz and Soul Festival

    • August 16 - 17, 2014
    • The Salem Jazz and Soul Festival recreates and renews the vibrant jazz scene that began at the Salem Willows in the 1920’s, when Duke Ellington and other musicians from the Big Band era played at the seaside park in Massachusetts. The festival builds on this rich jazz history - adding soul, blues and funk to the mix and shining the spotlight on talented musicians from Boston’s North Shore and beyond.

  • 32nd Antique and Classic Boat Festival

    • August 23 - 24, 2014
    • A rare chance to see vintage motor yachts and sailboats, board vessels, meet skippers and crews and vote for your favorite boat!  A crafts market, artists, old-time band music, children’s activities, the Blessing of the Fleet and more! Saturday from 11 am-5 pm; Sunday from 10 am-3 pm at the Brewer Hawthorne Cove Marina, 10 White St, Salem. Admission: $5, Free for children under 12.

  • Pickwickian Endeavors: Charles Dickens Conference

    • September 26 - 28, 2014
    • The International Dickens Fellowship-North of Boston Branch along with the Planning Committee and Advisory Board will hold the 1st Bi-annual North American Dickens Conference. This three day conference on Charles Dickens, titled “Pickwickian Endeavors,” will be held on at Salem State University, Salem, MA. The weekend will include Dickens talks, lectures, performances, and workshops.

  • 33rd Annual Salem Haunted Happenings
