Calling all Toddlers, Tots, and Preschoolers ages 2-6! The Park Rangers at Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site invite you to attend free monthly story-time and activity sessions around the park! Bring your favorite adult and learn about the special places, objects, living things and stories the National Park Service protects. Create crafts to take home each time and receive a special prize for attending all six sessions!  Free, no reservations required.  Meet at the Saugus Iron Works Visitor Center (244 Central St., Saugus). Questions? Contact Tracy Lindboe at theresa_lindboe@nps.gov or call (781) 233-0050. See full schedule below:

June 19: Go on a scavenger hunt to find out what kinds of animals that live in the park. Then, make a mask of your favorites! (Book: Just Ducks! by Nicola Davies).

July 17: Receive a Junior Ranger hat and badge and learn about the special places our park protects. Visit the Iron Works House then design your own park Arrowhead to show what you care most about. (Book: Hello National Parks by Martha Zschock).

August 15: Discover what kinds of tools were used and made at the Iron Works. See a water wheel in action as it powers one of our largest tools, the bellows! Then, use modeling clay to create your own “iron” creations to take home. (Book: Tap Tap Bang Bang by Emma Garcia).

September 11: Dig up objects that tell us about the history of Saugus in our archaeology box! Draw a picture of your findings to go in our museum case. Then, see some real artifacts in our museum. (Book: Archaeologists Dig for Clues by Kate Duke).

October 23: Become an iron worker and mix play ingredients together to make iron. Watch a blacksmith demonstrate how to make a nail in our blacksmith shop. Then make a popsicle puppet of an iron worker to take home. (Book: Farmer Duck by Martin Waddell).
