Salem Celebrates the Fourth

July 4

Celebrate Independence Day with live music and family programming at Salem Maritime National Historic Site and a fireworks extravaganza!

Festivities begin at 5:00 p.m. with the opening of Kids’ Space, an area filled with free face painting, games, and crafts for little ones.  Also at 5:00 p.m. Annie Brobst, the 2016 & 2017 New England Country Music Award’s Female Artist of the Year, will be performing with her band on main stage.  Opening ceremonies begin at 7:15 p.m., which will include a flyover by the 104th Fighter Wing of the Massachusetts National Air Guard, Barnes Air National Guard Base (Westfield, MA), and the National Anthem performed by Witch Pitch, the Salem High School a cappella group. The opening ceremonies are followed by a two hour ‘POPS’ concert by the Hillyer Festival Orchestra, a forty-piece ensemble with vocal soloists performing opera to Broadway favorites.  At 9:15 p.m. a magnificent fireworks display is launched from Derby Wharf accompanied by live music from the orchestra.

Morning Independence Day Event in Salem: 

Monday, July 4
Join Mayor Driscoll on Salem Common at 9:00 a.m. for the reading of the Declaration of Independence. Dann Maurno will read the document. Bob Kendall will provide piano music, a quintet from Salem High School’s Witch Pitch? will sing the National Anthem, and audience singing will be led by Maureen Dalton. Coffee will be provided by the Salem Common Neighborhood Association.
